I have my 2nd interview today at BCBE. Think good thoughts. Pray to the Creator. Wish me luck. Etc. etc.
radio transceiver antenna complete
I put in the antenna in my teardrop trailer project.
radio transceiver antenna mount
Like my radio transceiver antenna mount? It took me about one hour to create it. Good or bad? Well, it’s pretty exact in specs. “Pretty exact”? Within reason I mean. It will go on the teardrop trailer and connect to the Stryker SR-955HP 10 Meter Amateur Mobile Transceiver. Eh? Here’s a Revit drawing of one and a photo of the other.
Uniden PC-122
I won an auction for a Uniden PC-122 CB/SSB radio. This is the same radio as the Radio Shack TRC-465. It’s a solid little radio. I am thinking that MV can use it when we travel together. We’re always fighting with battery power and range with some 2-way radios that we have.
For those who don’t know, SSB (Super Side Band, or just Sideband) radio is a type of radio signal that has no carrier wave but sends a signal through pure modulation. Eh? Read up if you want. These radios operate on the same frequencies as regular CB radios, either just above (Upper Side Band) or just below (Lower Side Band). The upside of SSB is increased range. The downside is that the receiver cannot lock on to any carrier wave but must adjust their receiving modulation up or down to hone in on the signal.
Muddy River utility trailer
I did it! (Again.) I bought a utility trailer, this time from Muddy River.
Hopefully I won’t need to return this one.
Work on the teardrop begins when it arrives!
trailer, bought and returned
I shocked myself yesterday. I bought a 5×8 folding trailer. See campers.allansplace.ca. If you read this already, you’ll see I returned it this morning. Two reasons: They wouldn’t take delivery from their factories until the end of November; and it was too expensive, not only to purchase it but to purchase materials to build it. I will look for a 4×8 trailer.
Earl Grey tea
I shocked the world today. I walked into Good Earth Coffee House and ordered … “Earl Grey tea, please.” The server, stunned, just looked at me with wide eyes for 3 or 4 seconds. I wish I had a body cam. She turned to her coworker and said, slowly, “Earl Grey tea.” The coworker widened her eyes. “Okaayyy.”
I’ve been coming here for several years, on and off, and have always had coffee. But, once in a while, you have to shock the world.
ASET Mentoring program
I have decided to sign up for ASET’s Mentoring program to fine-tune my skills in my search for employment. I’ve applied for 41 positions and had 8 interviews. I’ve reworked my resume a few times and have drafter countless cover letters, some of which I have not sent (like to ISL Engineering, as they adamantly require APEGA membership). I have been close in a few. Still, in the six months since convocation, nothing solid. Getting a little concerned. So I’m hoping a little guidance from a Mentor will offer some insight.
privacy policy needed, apparently
I was about to put another entry onto the ongoing letter. I got a message from WordPress, the software that runs my ongoing letter, saying that I should probably have a ‘privacy policy’.

Bloody hell. I clicked to view the next page.
bugless
I’m sure by now everyone has heard that there is a serious decline in the quantity and diversity of bugs out there. One only reads one article to understand how bleak it sounds. I myself have not had to wash my windshield after highway driving for a few years now.
What is causing this? Global climate change (“global warming”)? Pesticide use? Monocrops? Everyone watering lawns made of nothing but grass (read: desert)?
I wonder if anyone has thought of radiation, as in radio waves emitted from everything from cellular phones to GPS satellites to 50,000-Watt radio stations to Bluetooth absolutely everywhere?
Floyd and I will plant native flowers in all the bald patches around the house next spring. We let the greenery in the grass grow regardless of what it is. If Parkbridge management complains, well … okay.
Comments, anyone?
