Hey, folks.  It’s terribly rainy today

Saturday, June 30, 2001

Hey, folks.  It’s terribly rainy today, gray skies, windy, cold (according to Hanmee), and generally very dull.  We’re planning on going to Kyobo book store soon.  But first, we have to clean up our apartment, eat, etc.  Lynn (Ingyoung) is planning on coming here this evening.  Dunno though.

Good.  It’s done…

Good.  It’s done.  My USB webcam and the old camera are streaming independently.  One is running with iVista, the other with Windows Media.  Of course that means the whole computer is much slower, and the frame rates of both are much lower, but at least it’s working.  Okay, so this really isn’t a big thing to anyone else, but it’s been something i’ve been working on fixing for a couple weeks now.  Video codecs are always a dilemma.  Sometimes a real head-scratcher.

The cats are still alive.  They’re fat as ever.  Hanmee’s father seems to think that, when we move back to Canada, taking the cats with us is stupid.  Crazy.  A waste of effort.  “They’re just animals.”  To each their own.  As far as i’m concerned, he’s just a stranger, and my cats are my family.  Nothing else matters.

I forgot to say…

Wednesday June 27, 2001

I forgot to say that, last week, i gave up all my birds.  Hanmee got frustrated in all the financial mire we’re in from lack of income, so i broke the stagnant mood and ran out the door with the birds.  I went to Dongdaemoon market and sold all nine birds (including the old one with the bum feet) and the cage for 10,000 won.  So now we have no twit-twit on the balcony anymore.

I called my dad the last night.  I can’t help thinking that the distance is great – too great to bridge.  Not necessarily (or at any rate, not only) from the physical divide between us, but just a separation i can’t easily explain.  He’s done it.  He can’t find the words to communicate with me anymore.  Just doesn’t want to.  Maybe i’m boring, maybe he thinks i’ve turned too white-collar for him.  Maybe he just don’t like me no more.  Who knows – who cares.

The cicadas have started buzzing now, bringing in the summer.  Kind of noisy, if you ask me!  Ha ha!

I am the King…

Saturday June 23, 2001

I am the King of Reformatting!  Let it be known all over the world – Allan is the King!  Long live the King!

Okay.  So that’s a little over the top.  But so is reformatting twice within as many days!  Anyway, something screwed up stopping most of the computer’s services, so i reformatted.  Then, i screwed up in the “domain” and “workgroup” thing making it impossible to get “Active Directory” services up and running.  With Caleb’s (my bro-in-law) heroic help, i got part of it sorted out so as to get my LAN going.  But the underlying problem still existed – the Active Directory shit.  So to make a long, drawn out story a bit shorter, i fixed it.  By reformatting.  Again.  I am the King!  (Of reformatting, anyway.)

I put all my plants outside…

Friday June 22, 2001

I put all my plants outside a few days ago, when the rains started.  Now they look healthy.  Healthier than me!  Time to bring them all in again.  They’re doing me no good sitting out there, so i’ll bring ’em in today.

Wow.  It finally happened…

Monday June 18, 2001

Wow.  It finally happened.  Namo delivered my CD.  I’ve been waiting for two weeks to get this.  Living in Korea and wanting an English version is kind of unusual, i guess.  They wanted me, originally, to pay in Yankee dollars.  I’m not a Yank, and i’m living in Korea.  Why don’t i pay in Brazilian Real, Mexican Pesos, or Bangladeshi Taka?  I’m in Korea.  I can pay in Won, thank you very much.  Anyway, i now have what i think is the best web editor on the market.  Do i sound like a commercial?  Well, so be it.
