While Floyd is in Saskatchewan, I’m here. I delivered him there but found I had nothing to do, so I drove back again and started this project.
Whenever I try to do something heavy, like using the vice, the bench hops around and prevents any serious work being done. It wasn’t fastened to the walls – it was just sitting directly on the plastic shelving (see pics).
So I pulled it all apart.
I ripped some 2×2 supports out of old wood …
… and mounted them to the garage wall studs with 3 1/2″ screws. I fastened the plastic shelves to the supports and screwed the bench top down to the supports from the top.
I hit one snag. The bolts holding the vice and the scroll saw were exactly lined up with the edge of the plastic shelving, making mounting them with their carriage bolts difficult. I had to carve out bits of shelving plastic to make it work.
And so now the bench and any projects done on it won’t jump around like a jackrabbit.
