I’ve long thought this was a weirdity in North American culture – blinking red brake lights to act as signal lights.
Now that I have this Chrysler Town & Country, and my first vehicle in ages to have red rear signal lights, it’s become front-and-center to me.
Turn signals — amber or red? Yes, it matters
In fact, I’ve purchased some 3157 light bulb sockets and amber bulbs to alter the rear-end of my vehicle. Much the same as what Australia did when importing American vehicles – they used the clear reverse light section of the tail light assembly as an amber turn signal – I will attempt to make the alteration myself.
Like “letter size” paper and Imperial measurements, North America is out of step with the rest of the world when it comes to standardization and safety. Why? The United States refuses to accept the evidence – that amber turn signals are better on so many fronts. They took forever to implement high-mount brake lights and still don’t have daytime running lights. Canada has wanted to implement this standardization for a while, but unfortunately, we are somewhat glued to the United States here in that the US will announce trade wars and sanctions and such.
What’s your opinion?
