I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had this discussion with credit card companies. “I want to download the transactions made,” I say. “Yes,” they say, “you can download statements online.” “No,” I say, “I don’t want statements. I want transactions, downloadable into my accounting software, Microsoft Money.” “That’s the same thing. All the transactions are listed on the statement. Isn’t that the same thing?” “Ah!” I exclaim. “No! I don’t want PDFs! I want the transactions!” “Oh – … you can get the statements and then just type it into your program,” they offer.
What a bunch of buffoons.
HBC / Neo Mastercard, Walmart Mastercard, and Home Depot store card do not offer downloading of transactions. And Scotiabank, or so I thought.
Then, either because of a) my blindness (can’t find the tomato soup while standing right in front of the soup section), b) a change of design at Scotiabank, or c) a change in the bank’s policies, I now see the spot to download not just statements but transactions! Yah!
What it there all along?
Now you might think I’m being foolish or picky. You’re probably right about being foolish but likely for entirely different reasons. But about being picky – it helps to keep track of everything.
