ASET’s 2019 Capstone Project of the Year Award

Congratulations, Tyson Baldrey and Randy Holmberg, on our selection as recipients for ASET’s 2019 Capstone Project of the Year Award! Thank you for your dedication, hard work, and professionalism! I am part of the best team in Alberta!

We were chosen to represent Lethbridge College at Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) for their Capstone Project of the Year Award.  Our nomination put us in competition with other institutions across Alberta for this year’s Award.

We prepared many ideas for a project and decided on Bamboo as a Viable Alternative to Steel Reinforcement in Concrete.  Our preliminary (Research Proposal) was accepted, and so we got to work utilizing our skills learned at Lethbridge College; we set up a timeline of tasks and events, organized material available from the College and elsewhere (retail), did our research on what had already been done in the field, created our tests of materials in the labs provided us by the College, and documented our findings.  We presented in front of our colleagues (fellow students), industry representatives, instructors, and faculty.  You can see our research material online here.  Later, we found out were were nominated to represent Lethbridge College for this year’s (2019’s) Award.

This afternoon, Tyson informed me that we were selected!  We were chosen!  As recipients, were will be attending the reception and presentation on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton.  Accommodation (hotel, dinner, etc.) for us and one guest each is provided by ASET.

I’m very excited about this.  …  Can you tell?
