My last entry was kind of useless…

My last entry was kind of useless, wasn’t it?

Sunday morning.  Dark, cloudy, hot, sticky, humid, and generally subtropical outside today.  Cicadas are buzzing away outside in their familiar pattern – zzzeeezzzeeezzzeeezzzeee-eeeeeeeee.  I’m having my morning coffee, Hanmee is still sleeping.

Speaking of Hanmee, she’s been really heavily into her drawing lately.  She’s really good, too!  (I think so.)  She bought a reference book on sketching nudes and, while i went out with Brian (a fellow Canadian here in Seoul), she spent most of her time sketching.  I have a page on this website devoted to her artwork.

Have a look if you want to.  You’ll be able to see a progression of sorts as time goes on, i should think.  She has a few sketchbooks left over from her time in Australia.  She’s drawn me, our cats, some people in magazines, …  Well, you take a look.  I’ll put some more in later today.

The cats are going crazy now.  Must be the heat!  They’re running around like animals possessed.

Guess what i bought yesterday.  Go ahead.  Guess.  I bought a CD-ROM player / writer / rewriter DVD player drive.  It’s a combo of all in one nice little CD drive.  Unbelievable.  How did i get along without one before?  Ha!  With all the crap on my computer – like music, photos, videos (huge files), software installation files, and all that – my hard disks had almost reached top end.  So, i burned a few last night after getting home from Youngsan electronics market.  Brian & i met there yesterday afternoon.  He needed more memory, and i a CD burner.  Never would i have guessed i would have gotten a DVD player as well.  A regular CD-ROM player / writer / rewriter was about 140,000 ($160), and this one with the DVD player was 200,000 ($230).  I wanted a DVD player all along anyway, so there you go.  The rewrite CDs are just like hard disk drives only smaller.  You format them and cut & paste files just like a hard drive.  Cool.  I imagine the CDs are more expensive.  Only got one with it.  But if this is how it works, then i’m happy.  Now i have to go out and get some DVD movies.  Hmm.  More money.  <pwwt>

Anyway, i got this CD burner so i don’t have to worry about keeping stuff on my hard drives when reformatting.  Why reformat?  No, there’s nothing “wrong” with my computer.  Just experimenting with Win2000.  Advice to the computer geek world out there – give up Win98 and go to Win2000 – or at least to WinMe.

I met up with Brian yesterday, as i said, at Youngsan.  I need someone to hang out with, i think, who’s interested in computers, technology, etc.  That’s Brian.  I only wish i could have been more help to him there finding stuff.  I’ve been there a thousand times, but i still couldn’t tell him where the bank machines were.  Sorry, Brian.  But he bought himself some new RAM – an extra 256 KB of PC 133 memory for 55,000 won.  Very cheap.  I paid 127,000 a few months ago.

Does anyone remember that earthquake in Taiwan a year or so ago?  Apparently, the price of memory skyrocketed just after that.  Taiwan is (or was) the leading manufacturing in memory.  So when plants were lost, memory went to 5 and 6 times their original cost.  From about $1 a MB to $5 a MB.  Anyway, now they’ve come down in price a lot.  Of course now i don’t need any extra.  I’ve got 384 MB of RAM.

later

Going to bed soon.  I just wanted to say that the “cat toilet training” page is almost done.  Take a look if you think you’re into it.  Cheers.
