Boy, was it hot today. Hanmee & i were going to head out for a bike ride today, but after pumping up the tyres and getting ready to go, i decided it was too damn hot. Heat stroke was beginning to take it’s effect. Anyway, i’m sitting in the comfort of air conditioning now.
Hanmee’s parents were over last night. They bought a condo for their son, Hanyoung (my brother-in-law), who just came back from training in Florida, US. But as of yet it’s lacking furniture, a bed & bedding, screens on the windows (hence a mosquito problem), and general homeyness. So they bunked here last night. For the first time, her dad had something nice to say about me, us, our lifestyle, the cats, our plants, food, etc. He’d been a real sourpuss on previous visits, but after Hanmee’s reaming out for it a month ago or so, things have been a little different.
They want – or rather, he wants – to move to Canada and spend his days golfing in his back yard. Of course, that’s where i come in. Know any cheap houses with golf courses attached? Ha ha! Hmm. That’ll be a tall order if Hanmee & i are to eventually live in Vancouver. No thanks. What a money pit. What a sink hole. Complete waste of efforts, moving to Vancouver. My sister is still there, after 15 years of her life, and through thick and thin – garbage pickup strikes in peak of summer; pollution problems that (in my view) excel Seoul’s; bus, Seabus, & SkyTrain strikes that has lasted more than four months so far; over-population in a city that can only expand in one direction; and racial tensions & gang wars that make every other city in Canada look like a fairytale. No thanks. Not Vancouver. If we do move there, it’ll be a sweet deal that brings me there.
No. My eyes are on the other coast. Halifax, Nova Scotia looks good to me. But that’s a long way off. Calgary, Toronto & region, and Montreal all look good to me too. But all that’s a long way off, is it not? Yup. I’m afraid so. My mother always asks me, “So you’re coming back when your apartment lease is up, right?” “No, mom. I never said that.” We’ll come back when we feel like it.
There’s a sink hole under our apartment. I don’t think the foundation is hanging over a giant pit with no anchors, but i think it’s a major size whole nonetheless. They filled it in at the back, just outside our balcony doors, with a barrier of fibreglass or something to hold it from falling into the pit below. Did i work? Of course not. The pit just expanded next to the barrier. Anyway, it’s all this rain we’ve been having that’s done it.
I’m well on my way in the MCSE Training Kit for Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Microsoft really does make a good server, but it’s of course way too huge for my own silly little uses. I can have a few hundred thousand computers hooked up to mine on this system. Insane or what? Ha ha! Anyway, almost no crashing on this one. Anyone thinking of getting Win98 or WinMe, forget it. Go Win2000.
